Innovating urban mobility for the sustainability: the contribution of Mobility as a Service

MaaS can play an important role in promoting multimodality, the transition to more sustainable modes of transport and more efficient use of networks of transport. The “Strategy for smart and sustainable mobility” adopted by European Commission in December 2020 recognizes the fundamental role of digital solutions in realizing multimodality in urban and suburban areas.
The pandemic from COVID-19 had a profound impact on transportation and urban mobility, in particular on the use of public transport, but at the same time it helped to bring out travel habits more flexible, for example due to the increase in work from home.
