Romain Svartzaman
Romain Svartzman is a Research Fellow at Bocconi University’s Institute for European Policymaking (IEP@BU). He also holds positions as a CEPR Research Affiliate, an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP, University College London), and an Editor for the academic journal Ecological Economics.
 
His research focuses on: (i) The macroeconomic and financial implications of climate-biodiversity transition scenarios, including geopolitical factors related to the supply of critical minerals; (ii) Reimagining the design and governance of monetary policy, and its relationship to fiscal policy, to better navigate these transition scenarios while supporting equitable outcomes. His work is also informed by his applied experience as a Senior Economist at the Banque de France (2019-2024), an environmental and social expert for the World Bank Group (2012-2015), and an investor in clean tech for a venture capital fund (2007-2011).
 
Romain holds a PhD in the field of ecological macroeconomics from McGill University (Canada, 2020), a Master’s degree in finance from Sciences Po (IEP Paris, 2007), and a professional degree in economics and law of climate change from FLACSO Argentina (2015). He has dual French and Argentine nationalities.
